Been working on this one on and off for a while. It is the Airfix 1/48 TSR-2 with a couple of minor mods to make it a little better.

Mods include - intake on the fin, reprofiled intakes and wing trailing edges, scratchbuilt pylons and inflight refuelling probe scaled up from the 1/72 SAM publications resin ones, a couple of scratched air data probes and also added an angle of attack probe.

I have used the excellent Model Alliance 1/48 TSR-2 in What If RAF Markings decal sheet.

Brilliant Falcon! It certainly looks a sizeable beast.

Cheers Narayan.

It is a fair chunk of plastic alright and it weighs quite a bit too.

Another great TSR2 Chris...are you ready yet to post up a definitive Build-up Guide for this model, either in 1/72 or/and 1/48?

Regards,
Bruce

I've often wondered, if we had bought the TSR-2, which types wouldn't we have had?
(Great bit of modelling, BTW).

For starters, the Canberra would've retired.
The TSR2 was cancelled 'in favour' of American F-111's, but that deal fell through and we ended up buying Phantom II's instead and fitting them with Rolls Royce engines.

The TSR2 was intended as a supersonic, low-level penetrator, so the Vulcans and Victors would not have had to adopt wrap-around camo, for low-level flying and would've also retired.

The Buccaneer would still likely have gone ahead for our carriers, but they would not've been needed by the RAF. Likewise, the SEPECAT Jaguar may have been redundant.

The gap left by the TSR2 was realised to be an important one way too late, by which time, the creation of new, multi-role combat aircraft was seemingly too costly for one country and it took Panavia the time it took to give us the Tornado, which only came close to the (expected capabilities of the 'Eagle'.

All that said, Chris knows way more on the subject than I.

Regards,
Bruce

Cheers guys.

I'm sure I can come up with some sort of build report and potted TSR-2 history. I thought I had already done a build report for the 1/72 kit.

It will have to wait til next week as this one is still to finish and I have to prepare for some model show this weekend, can't think which one it could be.....

I had been looking at the possibility of modifying a couple of 1/48 Sea Eagle missiles from the Airfix Buccaneer S.2B kit to become the radar version of the Martel missile.

After looking at several references, it turns out the Sea Eagles from the Airfix 1/48 Sea Harrier FRS.1 kit appear to be the correct shape (apart from a lump on the underside) and size. Even got 2 of these kits in the stash. All I will need to do is give them a bit of a clean up and add a touch of detail.

What a result. party:

Martels are coming along nicely.

Scribed and shaped.

Sprayed with primer.

And painted Dark Green with the airbrush.

Just got to add the payload markings.

The Martels are now fully marked up and mounted on the inner pylons.

The Eagle is now varnished and the masking has been removed. Pics to follow.

Not far off the finishing post now. Just got to give the Eagle a good going over with the weathering wash. So here are a few more pics.

Looks very impressive and from the size of it on your workbench large! Personally though I preferred it without the wash.
