Hi folks, I hope you are all in fine fettle.

You may (or may not ) remember me asking for info/drawings etc on aircraft hangars a while back.

Well, I have been given lot's of brilliant information/drawings etc by Mr Darren Jelley at the 493rd BG Debach, Suffolk.

http://www.493bgdebach.co.uk/

So, I really wanted to build a 1/48 WW2 RAF hangar and stick a Tamiya Lanc in it. At this scale and going by the info on the drawings, the hanger will measure approximately 650mmL x 670mmW x 220mmH. I know it's rather on the large side, but hey, what the hec!

The structure has 13 steel double chord truss's with loads of bits so it should be fun to build.

The only problem is finding the time to build it as we now have an eight week old son to keep us busy. I will wack some photo's on once I get it going.......just in case anyones interested.....

Cheers

martin b

Oh, and yes ALIEN, I used to go to Cambpell Drive shops as well, not to mention Wilsons on Pilch Lane!

I´m interested - are you buildind an extension to house it as well? In fact why stop there - what about 633 squadron in 1/24?

Yes Narayan, it is going to be big.

My wife asked me the other day.....

1) Where are you going to build it?

2) Why are you building it?

3)What are you going to do with it when it's finished?

I said.....

1)In the garage (my only escape from total chaos) I did'nt tell her the last bit!

2)Because it makes me happy.

3) I'm going to take photos of it and post it on this website.

To which she replied.........Oh, ok. Just make sure you don't spend too much money on it. And by the way, when do you expect to build this thing?

I said....

Between 4 and 5am seems to be a good window these days.......we shall see I guess.....

Ah well,

I have succumbed to financial pressure and yesterday bought the Minicraft 1/144 Lancaster.

So now my hangar is going to be around 170mmW x 190L x 60mmH.

Nver really made anything at 1/144 before, so it may turn out a bit on the dire side.

Should still be a challenge to build the hangar structure though....

Hi Martin,

Good luck with your hangarama and your Lancaster. I really enjoy 1/144 scale and was thinking of picking up that very kit.

All the best

James

Thanks James,

Yeah, I don't think I've ever made a 1/144 kit before.

I'm looking forward to having time to actually build it.

Cheers

Hi Stewart,

Your corrugated sheeting machine sounds very interesting, have you got a photo of it?

Are you going to build a t2 hangar?

Sometimes I miss the english winter evenings!

I wish it would cool down here, it was 35 degree's the other day, way too hot for model making!

Good luck with your hangar too!
