Picked up a complete kit at the Spalding show yesterday for £2. Can anybody offer guidance on it's scale 1/96th or 1/100th ? Is it an old Frog moulding ? I can get new decals from SM Decals 1/96th scale for BOAC. The kit decals are for BOAC G-APDB, approx date of kit construction 1975.
Any help/information much appreciated from member's.

If it's this one (with cabin windows holes),

http://www.familie-wimmer.com/hobby/hr06/hr06-veb/hr06-v22/

then it's definitely Plasticart's own mould. the Frog/Novo on has no opening for the cabin wondows.

Hello Dwomby,

Many thanks for replying. Yes I have rechecked and it is the Plasticart version moulded in white plastic with window openings. The box art depicts a Comet departing the old Hong Kong Kai-Tak airport. Again thanks for your help. This is the kit here http://www.familie-wimmer.com/hobby/hr06/hr06-veb/hr06-v22/v-comet-3.html Now is it a Comet 3 or a 4 ??? I shall have to measure to find out unless someone on the forum can help ?

As part of my Dan-Air collection I am definitely thinking of putting it in those colours but the BOAC scheme is very British.

Thanks Dwomby, Yes the Comet 3 and 4 had a fuselage length of 111' 6'' while the short wingspan 4B and the large span 4C had a fuselage length of 118'.

At the Brampton show yesterday saw a 1/100th DH Comet 4 in a "Hawk" boxing. They wanted to sell for £180 !! Is it the same kit as the Plasticart ?

Hmmmmmm. The only Hawk kit of the Comet that I am aware of (and I've never actually seen for myself) is this one and only I've seen it referred to as 1/144 or 1/153.

There's a description of it on the Airlinermodelling Group at Yahoo by Jim Galloway that says: 'DeHavilland Comet Kit # 507. Scale of 1/153. BOAC markings. It had a lift up left side and a full interior. Had at least 20 passengers. Bulkheads fore and aft of the passenger compartment. Surprisingly, the lift up half fits snug when in the down position. The sample that I have was already built and part of a large collection that I picked up last year. Cockpit glass is frosted from glue and I cant tell if there is a flight deck/crew or not. No engines so it is a see thru at the intakes.'

There's one for sale here:

Thanks again Dwomby ,just got back from 3 days break in Pembrokeshire West Wales. Yes that is the box art and depicts G-ANLO which I thought was a Comet 3 registration.

The Hawk kit was intended to have Capital markings but Capital cancelled leaving Hawk with BOAC livery on a Comet 3.

The kit also comes with some nice ground vehicles.

Belated thank you to Frogman. There was a Hawk Comet for sale in the Kit Swap at Telford for I believe £150 !! Thanks to Ray of 2-6 Decals I now have the 1/96th Dan-Air markings from Telford and just waiting for warmer weather to spray the white gloss. I will try and get photo's on here when finished. There was a Dan-Air Comet 4 in 1/72nd at Telford comp area converted from the Airfix BAe Nimrod , it looked stunning.
